A Leicester Artist with Indian roots
Kamal came to the UK in the late 70’s to follow his dream of attending the prestigious Royal college of Art. After failing to gain admission, Kamal settled in the industrial city of Leicester where there was a bustling community of Gujaratis. Here, Kamal married and as his family grew, he began to explore different opportunities always using his creative eye. Over the years Kamal took on many interesting projects from large scale theatre artworks to graphic logos and package design with his unique style always being weaved through.
Leicester and namely, Belgrave has been home to Kamal for over 40 years. The bustle of the golden mile down the road along with the thriving community meant that Kamal was really never too far from his birth country India.
As the years pass, Kamal paints more vibrantly, now on large canvases in vivid acrylic and oils. Still based in Leicester, Kamal feels this is his home, the place that gave his art some purpose.
Kamal will be exhibiting at the Leicester museum in 2024.
